Questions

Is this image to text converter free?

Yes. It is completely free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many images you convert. The text recognition runs on your own device instead of a paid server.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The OCR engine runs inside your browser, so your image and the extracted text never leave your device. That makes it safe for screenshots, receipts, IDs and other private documents.

What image formats can I use?

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and photos straight from your phone camera. You can drop several images at once and get all the text together.

How accurate is the text extraction?

Very good on clear printed text, and it improves with a sharp, well-lit, straight-on image. Handwriting, heavy stylised fonts and blurry or angled photos are much harder for any OCR engine.

Can I extract text from a photo on my phone?

Yes. Tap Take a photo to use your camera, or upload an image from your gallery. It works the same in mobile browsers with no app to install.

Does it work with PDFs?

This tool reads images. For a paper document, use the Document Scanner instead: it straightens the page, cleans it up and can produce a searchable PDF with the text embedded.

Which languages are supported?

English at the moment. The recognition model is downloaded once (about 6 MB) the first time you extract text, then it is cached for later visits.
